Walmart Storage Bed – Furniture Assembly

Our Client’s Requirements

We received a call one summer afternoon asking for help to assemble a bed that same evening. We accepted the late booking, as we have a lot of experience assembling furniture. The requirements were:

• Come by at 9pm and assemble a 12-drawer storage bed from Walmart.
• Must work quickly and finish the project on the same night.
• Keep everything clean so that the client can get some rest after her exhausting day of moving and unpacking.

Where to begin? Here’s What You Need To Know!

Many people are intimidated by the idea of putting together furniture from IKEA, Wayfair, Walmart, or similar. They often assume that they will need to buy an expensive screwdriver, power drill, socket wrench set and more, in order to get the job done. However, this is not generally the case.

In reality, all you need is a screwdriver set, an adjustable wrench, and a hammer. These items can be found in the hardware section of any hardware store, or even at Dollorama if you reside in Canada. For these tools, you can expect to pay $10 at most at Dollarama, or $30 at a local hardware store – and this is if you don’t already have these basic tools to begin with.

How to assemble Furniture in Half the Time with This Tip

If you want to assemble a bed kit, or other furniture units without breaking a sweat, this is how we at Handyman And Designs do it:

1. Open all boxes, cut them up, and use the cardboard pieces as a soft surface to lay big and/or delicate assembly pieces on. It’s best to open all boxes and bags before you start assembling anything. If any bags are numbered, keep the contents of each numbered bag in separate piles and place the numbered bags in the piles they belong to for future reference.
2. Lay out all the pieces separately from each other so that you can quickly find what you are looking for as you assemble your unit.
3. Once everything is neatly organized, read through the instructions manual thoroughly. This will provide you with a general foresight of how the unit will come together to form a finished piece. Be sure to read any important notices or comments if you see any.
4. Next, when you begin to assemble the unit, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer, and Don’t Skip Ahead. Finish one section at a time, and in the proper order.
5. As you near the end of your assembly, before your unit becomes too heavy to move, it’s best to move the incomplete structure to its final resting position. For example, if you are building a cabinet, once the frame is done, move the frame to its final spot along the wall before you attach any doors, drawers, mirrors, shelves, etc.
6. Once everything is assembled, do a snug-test for strength to see if everything is secure. The last thing you want is a glass cabinet door or something to fall off by accident and kill your lovely dog.
7. Again, just to be safe, hand tighten all easily accessible screws, such as drawer handles, door arms, etc.
8. Once everything is done and secure, Congratulations! You can now put your tools away in a safe place, and again, congrats for finishing your project!

Basically, the trick to assemble a furniture kit is to keep things organized while you work. Maintain a sense of order. Spread out your pieces so that you can locate them quickly, but take your time. Try to understand how things come together before you attach anything together. This will help you foresee possible problems, such as holding the wrong piece or placing your piece at the wrong angle. If you spot a problem, Stop, and make sure you line everything up visually with the drawings on the instructions booklet. Don’t think it, or try to guess-visualize it, just make it look exactly like the pretty pictures. If you do this, in time, you can assemble things without even thinking, and before you know it, you will become a Master Chief at Furniture Assembly!
